Information for Parents
Is your child...
- Five years or younger?
- Delayed in motor skills?
- Too active?
- Held back by a short attention span?
- Not active enough?
- Having difficulty learning?
- Delayed in talking?
- Having difficulty behaving?
- Having difficulty understanding language?
- Throwing temper tantrums?
If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, there's a chance your child might be developmentally delayed.
So it's important that you get help now. For children who are developmentally delayed, the first five years are critical. By solving problems early, you can influence their self esteem and ability to learn for years to come.
At the Birch Home Services Program, our skilled professionals can help your child acquire the basic skills necessary to achieve his or her greatest potential, using a complete range of early childhood services. They include:
- Occupational Therapy
- Service Coordination
- Speech Therapy
- Play Therapy
- Physical Therapy
- Special Instruction
- Parenting Education and Training
We're proud of the results. In fact, many of the children we serve no longer need special help by the time they reach kindergarten.
Our comprehensive services start with an evaluation at no cost to you.
We will assign an initial Service Coordinator who will arrange for your child to have a developmental screening and evaluation in your home, in your child's school or at one of our centers. Then we will work with you and the Early Intervention Program to determine the best way to meet your child's needs.
Services are tailored to your child's unique needs.
Because we understand that your child — and your family — is unique, we take great pains to tailor a package of services that address specific needs. Our Service Coordinators coordinate our services with you and your child.
And to make sure our services are provided in the most effective way possible, we use a team approach, in which parents, teachers and service providers all work together. We coordinate and support each other's efforts, to the maximum benefit of your child.
We bring our services to you and your child.
Your child can benefit from our services in his or her natural environment — at home, at a day care program, mainstream preschool or other location in the community — wherever is best for you and your child.
You're an important part of the process.
Because you are key to your child's development, you're at the heart of his or her treatment program. Through services like parent support groups and parenting education, you'll receive the training you need to help your child succeed. Most important, you'll always be involved in decision making about the services your child receives.
Birch does it all.
The range of services we make available to your child — and you — is comprehensive. You won't have to use more than one agency to get the help your child needs.
We're an approved provider for the New York City Early Intervention Program, working with children up to three years old, and the New York City Board of Education's Preschool Special Education Program, for children three to five. Our Early Intervention Program is funded by the New York State Department of Health and by the New York City Department of Health, Mental Retardation and Alcoholism Services. Our Preschool Services are publicly funded through New York State and New York City and provided at no charge to parents.
With our help — and yours — your child can get the jump-start that can make a difference for life. Our services are easily available and easy to use. So call the Birch Home Services Program today to arrange a screening.
