Information for Professionals
We offer comprehensive services for disabled and developmentally delayed children and children at risk, five years and younger.
You know how rewarding it is to work with exceptional children and watch them bloom. So do we — but we need more good people to work with us.
Join the team of skilled professionals at the Birch Home Services Program and enjoy all the benefits we have to offer. Using a complete range of interventions — from special education to physical therapy to play therapy — we help children with special needs acquire the basic skills they need to achieve their greatest potential.
We're proud of the results. In fact, many of the children we serve no longer need special help by the time they reach kindergarten.
You'll thrive on our unique team approach.
To make sure our services are provided in the most effective way possible, we use a team approach in which parents, teachers and therapists all participate in the child's treatment. Coordinating and supporting each other's efforts, everyone knows what everyone else is doing — to the maximum benefit of the child. We are committed to the coordination and supervision of skilled professionals through our Field Supervisors and Service Planners.
The point is to make life better — not just for the children, but for their families, too.
Parents are at the heart of our treatment program. Our Service Planners guide parents along the entire process, from referral through evaluation to intervention. With services like parent support groups and parenting education, parents receive the training they need to help the child succeed.
Most important, the parent is always involved in the treatment decisions affecting his or her child.
Birch does it all.
The range of services we make available to the child — and the parent — is comprehensive. First we determine whether the child requires our services by conducting a developmental screening and evaluation in the home, in the child’s school or at one of our centers. There is no cost to the parent for our services.
If we can help, we assign a Service Planner to work out a course of action. We can provide whatever is needed, from speech and physical therapies to special education to parent support groups — at home, at a day care program, mainstream preschool or other location in the community. So it isn't necessary to use more than one agency to get the help the child needs.
We're an approved provider for the New York City Early Intervention Program, working with children up to three years old, and the New York City Board of Education's Preschool Special Education Program, for children three to five. Our Early Intervention Program is funded by the New York State Department of Health and by the New York City Department of Health, Mental Retardation and Alcoholism Services. Our Preschool Services are publicly funded through New York State and New York City and provided at no charge to parents.
And there may be a place here for you.
