Introduction to TEACCH — Part I: Structured Teaching
October 14 & 15
Length: 2 Consecutive Days (both day attendance mandatory)
Description: Workshop provides an introduction to the characteristics of autism, diagnosis, culture of autism, and its classroom implications; a TEACCH overview, as well as information on the structured teaching component of TEACCH (physical structure, daily schedules, one-to-one instruction, and workstations). Sessions include the use of videotape, a slide show, a "make and take" and Q&A Session.
Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Paraprofessionals, Related Service Staff, Counselors, Administrators and Supervisors are all strongly recommended to attend.
Introduction to TEACCH — Part II: Hands-On Core Training

Length: Full day
Description: Training provides an opportunity to practice the skills that were acquired in the Two-Day Core Training. This is a "hands-on" day where participants will be able to participate in all of the daily structure and routines that occur in a TEACCH classroom. There is time allotted for questions and discussion at the end of the day.
Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Paraprofessionals, Related Service Staff, Counselors, Administrators and Supervisors are all strongly recommended to attend upon completion of Two-Day Core Training.
NOTE: Birch Training Institute and Bank Street College of Education have partnered to provide 2 Master's Level Bank Street credits for students participating in Intro to TEACCH parts I and II.
Child Abuse and Maltreatment NEW!

Description: Effective January 1, 1989, Education Law required certain individuals, when applying initially for licensure or a limited permit to provide documentation of having completed two hours of coursework or training regarding the identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment. This requirement applies to: Psychologists and Registered Nurses. The Law also includes this training among the requirements for certification or licensure of school administrators/supervisors, school service personnel, school psychologists, school nurses and classroom school teachers. All persons applying for a provisional or permanent certificate or license valid for administrative or supervisory service, school service, or classroom teaching service must have completed the two hours of coursework or training.
